Tucson police have identified the 25-year-old man killed in a Friday afternoon motorcycle crash on the west side.

Roger Gonzalez-McDaniel was pronounced deceased at the hospital after his motorcycle struck a car in the area of South Mission Road and West San Juan Trail, according to a post on the Tucson Police Department's Facebook page.

Just after 3:45 p.m., Tucson police and firefighters went to the area for reports of a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle, and discovered Gonzalez-McDaniel with obvious signs of trauma. He was taken by ambulance to Banner-University Medical Center, but succumbed to his injuries.

Traffic detectives have learned that Gonzalez-McDaniel was traveling southbound in the median lane of Mission Road on a black 1998 Moto Guzzi motorcycle. The driver of a Lexus 2008 sedan was stopped at a stop sign at San Juan Trail and began to turn northbound onto Mission Road, when the motorcycle crashed into the front driver's side fender area of the car, behind the vehicle's front tire, the post said.

Gonzalez-McDaniel was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the vehicle wasn't injured and remained at the scene. Traffic detectives are trying to determine if speed was a factor in the crash, but as of now, no arrests have been made or citations issued, the post said.

The investigation is ongoing.
