A 20-year-old man who was seriously injured when his motorcycle crashed into a truck Wednesday night died from his injuries the next day, authorities said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Tucson police and firefighters responded to reports of a serious injury crash on South Liberty Avenue and West Irvington Road, near South 12th Avenue, according to a post on the Tucson Police Department's Facebook page.

The motorcyclist, identified as Trystan Coleman,Β was transported to Banner-University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries but succumbed to those injuries on Thursday evening, the post said.

Traffic detectives learned that Coleman was riding a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle westbound in the curb lane of Irvington Road from the area of South 6th Avenue. Witnesses said that the motorcycle passed a vehicle before returning to the curb lane. A 1989 GMC one-ton pickup truck was stopped for the stop sign, southbound on Liberty Avenue on the north side of Irvington Road, which is an offset intersection, the post said.

The truck driver was intending to make an eastbound turn into the universal turn lane on West Irvington Road before making a southbound turn onto Liberty. As the truck began the turn, the motorcycle crashed into the front driver's side fender, just behind the front tire of the truck, the post said.

Police said that Coleman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the truck wasn't hurt.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working to determine if speed was a factor. No citations or arrests have been issued.
