STK emergency

A 34-year-old man was killed in a crash Saturday when the scooter he was riding collided with a car turning onto the freeway frontage road from West St. Mary's Road, Tucson police say.

Carlos Jason Lopez was riding a 2022 Genuine Scooter motorcycle west on St. Mary's about 12:15 p.m. when he collided with a car that turned left in front of him, police said in a news release.

Lopez had the green light when the driver of a 2024 Hyundai Tucson turned in front of him onto the northbound Interstate-10 frontage road. Lopez died at the hospital.

Lopez was wearing his helmet, but did not have a valid driver's license or motorcycle endorsement at the time of the crash, the release said.

The Hyundai driver, Daniela Marquez-Batista, 33, was cited on suspicion of causing death by moving violation and released, the release said.

The investigation continues.
