March in Tucson is off to a snowy start.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory starting 5 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday. Tucson, Green Valley and Vail are all expected to be affected.

The advisory said one to three inches of snow is expected as well as wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour.

Areas above 6000 feet are predicted to receive around eight to 16 inches of snowfall, the NWS said. Wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour are also expected in the mountains.

Due to the weather, the NWS advises individuals to plan for slippery road conditions that could impact evening commutes. The strong winds also bring the possibility of tree damage.

The NWS urges those driving to use caution while the advisory is in effect.

Real-time highway conditions are available on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov.

It is also available by downloading the AZ511 app, calling 511 or through ADOT’s Twitter feed, @ArizonaDOT.

A trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety was monitoring speed on Interstate 10 in Phoenix in November when he heard a "meow" nearby. The rescued cat, named "Cheddar," underwent a leg amputation due to injuries but is now healthy and living with her rescuer, AZDPS announced last week.
