Ramon Octavio of La Picosa played during South Tucsonโ€™s 75th Anniversary Music and Art Festival last month.

A music and arts festival on South Fourth Avenue designed to celebrate South Tucsonโ€™s 75th anniversary left the cash-strapped city in the hole by roughly $11,000.

City officials estimate the September event brought in about $32,700, but it was not enough to cover expenses.

Finance Director Lourdes Aguirre said the street fair was roughly $4,000 over the $40,000 the city set aside in the budget.

The city included an additional $17,000 in this yearโ€™s general fund budget for professional event planning services for the event. The expense, however, was not included in the budget for the celebration.

In a recommendation to the council, Aguirre suggested future events be held closer to the end of the fiscal cycle. She also recommended that the cost for professional event planning be part of the event budget.
