A new lounge with the feel of an old apothecary will open on the city’s east side this spring.

Apothecurious: Taps, Bottles & Community has leased 1,764 square feet at Berkshire Village, 8554 E. Broadway, from JMK Family Properties. Aaron LaPrise, Greg Furrier, Rob Tomlinson and Kameron Norwood, with Picor, handled the lease.

Co-owners Anissa Guzman and her husband, Brad Matheson, were looking to create a dark and cozy space to spark conversation and creativity or a place to unplug.

Apothecurious Tap Room will open this spring on Tucson's east side with a dark and cozy vibe to spark conversation and creativity.

The lounge name, a mix of the words apothecary and curious, will have a bar and conversation corners with loveseats.

The menu will include beer, wine and mocktails that will rotate quarterly and a choice of board games and pre-packaged snacks.

Anissa Guzman and Brad Matheson will open Apothecurious Tap Room in Tucson this spring.

The lounge will also feature a bring-a-book and take-a-book option.

“It will be a place for having fun together instead of being lost in our phones,” Guzman said. “It will be very homey and inclusive where everyone will be treated like family.”

The dark interior is intentional to give the feel of walking into an old library, and decorations will include plants, flowers, herbs, butterflies and skulls.

Apothecurious Tap Room features an interior mural by Claire Tierney Anderson.

The duo plan to host lecture events with university professors and discussions on best practices for baking certain breads and pastries.

Aiming for a late spring opening, Apothecurious will be open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
