Despite a storm that brought rain and hail to parts of the Tucson area Monday night, October will go down in the record books as a rain-free month.
No precipitation was recorded at the Tucson International Airport, which is the official recording station used by the National Weather Service. And with no measurable rain expected Tuesday, the monthβs rainfall total will go down in the books as zero.
βWeβll end up with a big goose egg at the airport,β said NWS forecaster John Glueck.
The west, north and east sides received rainfall Monday night, but the heaviest rain was in Oro Valley, with anywhere from 0.25 to 0.75 of an inch reported, said Glueck.
The month will be the fifth October on record in which Tucson received no official rainfall, the most recent being in 2013, according to the NWS. Tucson typically averages just under 1 inch of rain in October.
The last time the airport received any measurable rain was Sept. 8, recording 0.03 of an inch.
Along with a zero in the precipitation category, October is also set to go down as the second-hottest on record, Glueck said. The average high temperature was 93 degrees in October, with an average temperature of about 78 degrees, according to preliminary NWS data.
For the year, Tucson has recorded 10.18 inches of rain, slightly above average .
