The public is invited to tour the Benedictine Monastery and share ideas on what public use it might have.
Developer Ross Rulney is in the process of rezoning the property at 800 N. Country Club Road for market-rate apartments.
Part of his negotiation with neighbors included keeping the monastery a public venue.
“Ross is the owner of a public community asset and it is our goal to get the public’s opinion of how it will be used,” said Councilman Steve Kozachik, who has mediated talks between Rulney, neighbors and interested residents at large.
“Many people have opinions but have not seen the inside.”
He said the walking tour will provide a peek at all areas of the monastery and conclude in the chapel for an informal chat.
Rulney is scheduled to appear before the planning commission Nov. 15 on his request for redevelopment and is eager to get some feedback from interested residents.
“The process has been fairly contentious, but we’ve worked through all that,” Kozachik said. “That doesn’t mean there won’t be points of disagreement going forward ... but this is a sign of good faith.”
The tour will be on Monday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m.
