Northwest Fire District crews put out a tractor-trailer rig fire on Interstate 10 on Nov. 14, 2016. The driver suffered minor burns, said fire Capt. Brian Keeley.Β

A driver of a tractor-tralier suffered minor burns when his vehicle caught on fire on Interstate 10 near Marana Monday afternoon.

About 1:30 p.m., Northwest Fire District crews were dispatched after a 911 caller reported a tractor-trailer on fire on eastbound I-10 between Avra Valley and Twin Peaks roads, said fire Capt. Brian Keeley.

When firefighters arrived, they found that the cab and engine compartment were fully involved in flames.

The fire was quickly put out and crews determined that the driver had safely escaped the tractor-trailer before firefighters arrived on scene, Keeley said.

Paramedics treated the driver for burns and he was taken to the hospital.

Troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety are investigating the incident.

Eastbound traffic on the interstate was restricted to one lane, causing significant backups, Keeley said. Lanes will re-open as soon as it is safe, he said.

No further information was immediately available.Β
