STK emergency

A man riding in an ATV early Monday morning on Tucson's northwest side was thrown from the vehicle onto the road in a crash, where he was then struck and killed by a passing vehicle, authorities say.

The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. on West El Camino Del Cerro just west of North Silverbell Road, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday in a news release.

Thomas Balicki, 30, was a passenger in the ATV when it rolled on Camino del Cerro. He was thrown onto the pavement and the driver was pinned under the ATV, the release said.

While in the road, Balicki was fatally struck by a passing vehicle. The driver of that vehicle stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with deputies.

The driver who was pinned under the ATV was taken to the hospital.

The investigation continues.
