Tucson firefighters rescued a dog from a west-side house fire in the 1300 block of West Franklin Street Saturday night.

Ten units and 25 firefighters responded to an emergency call shortly after 10:30 p.m. from a passerby who saw smoke and flames coming from the front of the home, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, firefighters extinguished any visible flames and worked their way through the house looking for occupants.

None were found, but firefighters did discover a dog toward the back of the residence attempting to get out, the release said.

Crews released the dog into the backyard and were able to control the fire within 11 minutes after arriving. No injuries were reported.

The fire’s origin, cause and estimated damage have yet to be determined, the release said.
