A Tucson man who shot and killed another man during an argument last Thanksgiving was sentenced to life in prison Monday.
Lamont Adams was convicted of first-degree murder last month in connection with the Nov. 23, 2017 shooting death of 38-year-old Carlos Simmons.
Police were called to the 800 block of North Alvernon way at about 9 a.m., finding Simmons on the ground while bystanders performed CPR, according to Arizona Daily Star archives.
Simmons was taken to a nearby hospital, but later died from his injuries. Detectives learned that there was some type of verbal fight involving several people near the intersection of Alvernon and East Third Street, during which Adams shot Simmons.
Adams was arrested the following week.
In Dec. 2014, Adams pleaded guilty in Pima County Superior Court to felony counts of prohibited possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in city limits, in connection with an armed standoff with police responding to a domestic violence call involving Adams. He was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison.
