An impaired driver struck and killed a bicyclist Sunday night on Tucson's south side, police said.

The crash happened about 10:15 p.m. on West Valencia Road near South 12th avenue, Tucson police said Monday in a news release.

An orange 2016 Dodge Dart was traveling east in the median lane of Valencia when it struck the bicyclist who had crossed in front of the vehicle, the release said.

The name of the bicyclist was withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the Dodge was determined to be impaired, police said. Also, police said narcotic paraphernalia was found on the bicyclist, who wasn’t wearing a helmet and didn’t have the appropriate lighting on the bicycle.

The investigation continues.
