A man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a midtown apartment complex Tuesday night.

Tucson police have identified a man shot to death Tuesday night in the parking lot of a midtown apartment complex.

Shortly after 7 p.m., police received a 911 call from a man who said he had just shot someone in the parking lot of an apartment located at 5121 East 29th Street, located near South Rosemont Avenue, according to a Tucson Police Department news release.

When officers arrived on the scene, they detained the shooter for questioning. The victim was found laying in the parking lot, the release said.

Officers rendered first aid until paramedics with Tucson Fire Department arrived, however the man was pronounced deceased on scene.

He's been identified as 33-year-old Roger Rene Quiroz Jr.

Homicide detectives have learned that the two men were "involved in an altercation" before the shooting took place. Quiroz was armed with a knife, but detectives are still trying to determine the details leading up to the shooting, the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster hotline.
