A man was stabbed in the neck outside of a Fourth Avenue thrift store earlier this month, but the Pima County Attorneyβs Office declined to prosecute the case, police records show.
A 49-year-old suspect, who the Star is not identifying since he wasnβt charged with a crime, was arrested Sept. 10 and accused of attacking a man walking in front of the Goodwill store at 300 N. Fourth Ave., according to the Tucson Police Departmentβs investigative report.
The victim identified the man he said stabbed him, but declined to press charges.
At about 10:30 p.m., a Tucson police officer was flagged down at the intersection of North Fourth Avenue and East Eighth Street by a woman who said her friend had been stabbed, the police report said.
She told police the suspect had left the scene, and officers saw a man matching his description walking in a crosswalk and waving a knife, the report said.
Once the man was in custody, he told police that he was talking to two girls when another man walked up and grabbed one of the womenβs chests.
When he confronted the man, the two of them fought, he said.
He admitted taking out a knife during the fight, but told police he had been drinking earlier in the day and didnβt remember what happened next, the report said.
After confirming that the knife was his, he said he no longer wanted to answer questions.
When police found the victim, he had a deep puncture wound on one side of his neck and appeared to be falling over, the report said. Officers propped him up and began treating the wound before paramedics arrived to take him to a hospital.
βDuring this time the male was relatively uncooperative, refusing to give his name at first, refusing any medical treatment and refusing to go to the hospital,β the report said.
The suspect was booked into the Pima County jail in connection with charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony.
On Sept. 15, the Pima County Attorneyβs Office declined to prosecute the case.
