A bundled up cyclist rides along the Chuck Huckelberry Loop towards the Congress Street bridge near downtown Tucson Tuesday morning, one of the coldest this winter season. The next cold winter system will move through the area Thursday. It is expected to bring rain, gusty winds to the metro area and the potential for snow mostly south and east of the city.

A new weather system heading toward Tucson will reach the area on Thursday, with potential for rain, gusty winds and even snow, meteorologists are predicting.

This means cooler-than-normal temperatures will be sticking around throughout the week, and possibly into the weekend.

But if you want to get outdoors before the cold snap hits, meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Tucson point to Wednesday as being the day to do it.

With a high of about 61 degrees and a sky without clouds, Wednesday’s milder weather is expected to take a sharp turn when the new weather system makes its way to Tucson and brings the rain clouds with it.

On Thursday, Tucsonans can expect an 80% chance of rain showers. Temperatures are anticipated to drop 10-degrees, with a high forecast at about 51 degrees. An expected low temperature here of about 26 degrees is expected with widespread frost, the National Weather Service in Tucson says.

With the system’s passage, overnight lows Friday will reach below freezing, with widespread frost in the early morning hours.

Otherwise, Friday skies will be sunny again with a high of about 55 degrees and a low of about 30 degrees.

We say hello to the 60s again as we roll into the weekend with highs in the mid-60s and the lows above freezing on Saturday and Sunday.

As of now, meteorologists anticipate a sunny Martin Luther King, Jr., Day with Monday’s high in Tucson near 63 degrees.
