An 18-year-old woman nearly drowned Monday in a backyard swimming pool.

The parents of the woman found her submerged at the bottom of the pool and called 911. The Drexel Heights Fire District responded to the call around 11:10 a.m. on the 5100 block of South Spencer Avenue, fire district spokeswoman Tracy Koslowski said in a news release.

Paramedics performed CPR on the victim and took her to a hospital, where she is in the intensive-care unit, Koslowski said. The victim was a strong lap swimmer who swam frequently and had no medical concerns.

This was the seventh water incident in Pima County so far in 2017, she said.
