Known for her trademark hairdo and multiple eyeglasses, Marian Lupu became the director of what was then the Tucson Council on Aging in 1967.

A public memorial service for community activist Marian Lupu, who died this summer, is set for Saturday, Nov. 5.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Proscenium Theater at Pima Community College Center for the Arts, 2202 W. Anklam Road. The theater seats 425.

Lupu, an omnipresent activist for seniors in the Tucson area, died Aug. 14 at the age of 91. She founded the Pima Council on Aging and was its director for 40 years β€” waiting until she was 82 to step down and even then continued on as a consultant to the agency for several years.

In her later years, she became a volunteer with Dancing in the Streets Arizona, founded by her daughter and son-in-law, Soleste Lupu and Joseph Rodgers, going to the studio six days a week, more than five hours each day.
