Re: the June 28 article "2 Tucson developers buy Dove Mtn. resort."

In Gabriela Rico's article on the purchase of Dove Mountain resort, there's no suggestion that the partners had difficulty assembling $45.5 million in financing. Money was very much the issue four years ago, however, when HSL Properties' Humberto Lopez came to the Tucson City Council with his plan to have the taxpayers underwrite remodeling Hotel Arizona.

Maybe after the self-congratulatory hoopla subsides on his family's Dove Mountain "legacy asset," Lopez will have time to discuss the Hotel Arizona with his nephew, the president of HSL Properties. As their hotel sits empty and becomes a blight on the downtown, it's a family legacy of quite another kind. The last report I read is that this project has been moved even further into the future, while La Placita Village is being redeveloped.

Meanwhile, perhaps they could assemble the financing to repair the long-broken elevator in their income-generating La Placita parking garage and do the right thing for Tucson.
