Ellington was no stranger to Tucson. In 1954, Hector La Desma helped bring Duke Ellington and his 15-piece Ellington band for a one-night stand at El Casino Ballroom.

The legendary jazz musician Duke Ellington performed in Tucson in the 1950s and 1960s. โIโve never had a vacation. Itโs great to wake up in the morning and go to work,โ Ellington said during a visit to Tucson in 1961.
