A fire near the Arizona-Mexico border has burned around 4,000 acres, with 2,000 burned in each country as of Friday afternoon.
The Cumero Fire is burning tall grass and brush southeast of Sasabe, a small town in southern Pima County with an international border crossing.
The blaze is zero percent contained, officials at Coronado National Forest said in a press release. Approximately five fire engines are at the scene suppressing the fire with additional suppression from two helicopters.
On July 5, authorities received reports of smoke in the area south of Cumero Mountain, around two hours west of Rio Rico. Additional fire crews and aerial vehicles have been ordered to assist.Β
A temporary flight restriction has been initiated in the area, including drones, which would halt necessary emergency aerial vehicles from assisting.
