Here’s what you need to know about claiming a tax credit for donations to charitable organizations.

  • Charitable organizations that qualify for the credit are those that help the working poor, or those that help children who are chronically ill or disabled.
  • The maximum credit for a qualifying charitable organization donation is $200 for singles or $400 for married couples filing jointly, and the max for a donation to a foster-care organization is $400 for singles or $800 for married couples.
  • You can contribute to both a charitable organization and a foster-care organization and claim two tax credits, but together they cannot exceed $400 for singles or $800 for married couples.
  • For a complete list of qualifying charitable and foster-care organizations, see Page 8 or visit the Department of Revenue’s website at azdor.gov
  • You do not need to itemize deductions to claim a credit for contributions to charities that provide assistance to the working poor. For a full list of qualifying organizations, visit www.azdor.gov/TaxCredits/QualifyingCharitableOrganizations.aspx
  • To claim the charitable organization and foster-care organization credits, use Form 321.
