Arizona safety Scottie Young Jr. (19) arrives to late to keep Utah wide receiver Raelon Singleton (11) from making a catch in the fourth quarter of their Pac-12 opener at Arizona Stadium, Friday, September 22, 2017, Tucson, Ariz.

Sophomore safety Scottie Young Jr. is currently suspended from the team, Arizona Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin said Saturday.

Sumlin declined to specify the reasons behind the suspension, which went into effect before the start of spring practice.

“We’re just going to see where that process goes,” Sumlin said after the UA spring game at Arizona Stadium.

Young started nine games as a true freshman last season, ranking sixth on the team with 53 tackles. He also had 3.5 stops for losses and an interception.

Last September, Young was arrested in connection with a domestic-violence incident and charged with a misdemeanor. He’s due for a diversion check next month.

Young did not miss any game time as a result of the incident. He remained on the roster given to media members before the spring game.
