Arizona basketball: Dusan Ristic works out for Phoenix Suns

After taking a look at Dusan Ristic on Tuesday, the Phoenix Suns have now worked out four of Arizona’s departed starters from last season.

It was no surprise when Ristic was asked after the workout about one of the other starters who had already visited. You know, the guy who may become the Suns' first-ever No. 1 pick.

“I don’t think there is anything I can say that you guys don’t know,” Ristic said about Deandre Ayton. “Obviously, he’s an amazing player. He’s one of a kind. I think he’s the best player in this draft and if he goes No. 1, that’s not gonna be a surprise to me.”

Ristic said Ayton made him a better player after they went against each other in practice often, and told a group of media after his workout that he’s focused on the NBA, but with an obvious backup option in Europe.

“I’m just trying to prove I can play on the next level,” Ristic said, according to audio provided by the Suns. “I’m just trying to be who I was and add something new.”

The Suns have also worked out Allonzo Trier and Rawle Alkins on June 1, and looked at Ayton on June 6.

Arizona offered a scholarship to 2020 five-star forward Jalen Johnson of Wisconsin.

Fresno State coach Justin Hutson said he’s trying to keep forward Bryson Williams with the Bulldogs, after Williams asked for his release and took visits to  UTEP (May 26), Oregon (June 1) and possibly UA.

“I believe he also took a trip to Arizona. That’s about all I know,” Hutson told Fresno’s KSEE. “Our job now is to work and let him know we want him back. He’s taken three trips so far and we’re working diligently to make sure he knows he can come back.”
