While Nick Johnson will play for USA Basketball's World Cup qualifying team in the Americas event, former Arizona teammate Jordin Mayes will be representing Uganda in the African qualifier.
In a story FIBA published, Mayes expressed optimism about Uganda's chances and enthusiasm about joining the team.
"It is an honor to be playing for the national team," Mayes said, "and having the support of Uganda and the team behind me and welcoming me to be apart of something special to come."
Mayes posed with ESPN draft analyst (and UA grad) Mike Schmitz on the way to Nigeria.
