Arizonaâs latest addition is from the land down under.
Thereâs been a surge of Australian natives punting in college football, and the Arizona Wildcats have joined the trend in the last two years.
The Wildcats signed Melbourne, Australia, native and punter Isaac Lovison for the 2025 season, the UA announced on Wednesday.
Last season, Arizona signed Lachlan Bruce, from Geelong, Australia, but he never appeared in any games for the Wildcats. The UA was one of 61 FBS teams with an Australian punter last season.
Lovison played Australian rules football, also known as âfooty,â for the Great Western Victoria Rebels in the Talent League, an under-19 league in Australia. Australian rules football has 18 players and games are played on an oval field. Points are scored by kicking the ball through central goal posts for six points or an outer post for a point.
Due to attending college and playing Australian rules football, Lovison has one year of eligibility remaining.
Lovison joins Arizona through the âProKick Australiaâ program, which produced Aussie NFL punters such as Mitch Wishnowsky, Michael Dickson, Cameron Johnston and Lou Hedley, among others.
Lovison is the fourth specialist added since the addition of special teams coordinator Craig Naivar. Arizona added two long snappers in Jackson State transfer Avery Salerno and All-American Broden Molen, along with Illinois State transfer kicker and punter Ian Wagner and, most recently, Lovison.
Arizona returns sophomore kicker and punter Michael Salgado-Medina, who started at punter last season, and walk-on punter Jordan Forbes. Salgado-Medina competed for Arizonaâs starting kicking job this spring.
During spring practices, Naivar said he prefers Salgado-Medina to specialize in punting or kicking, and heâs âstill trying to figure out what avenue he does.â
âWhich one does he do?â Naivar said of Salgado-Medina. âWe have a really good option there with having his ability to do both. Whatever he does not do, heâll obviously be a tremendous backup in that regard, if he only does one of them. He gives us some options and has a really strong leg, so Iâm excited about the progress heâs made and where heâs at.
âThat gives us a direction of where we go now with summer workouts, fall camp and how he acclimates as we fill that room with additions, as well, because we will make some additions. ... Weâll be building some continuity, depth and try to get the best players out there for Saturday afternoons and Saturday nights.â
Arizona kicks off the 2025 season against Hawaii on Aug. 30 in Tucson.
