Hillary Edior hit a two-out, pinch-hit double in the seventh inning to knock in the gameβs only run Thursday, and the No. 9 Arizona Wildcats softball team won its series-opener at Stanford 1-0.
The win in Palo Alto was the 10th straight for the Wildcats, who havenβt lost since April 20 at rival Arizona State. The UA (39-13, 12-10 Pac-12) is 6-1 in conference games since suffering a sweep to UCLA in April.
Arizona ace Taylor McQuillin held Stanford (23-30, 2-20) in check for her conference-best 13th shutout and 25th win of the season. She allowed four hits and struck out seven Cardinal hitters. McQuillin ranks first among Pac-12 pitchers in innings pitched (208) and second in strikeouts (250).
The Wildcats struggled to find a rhythm offensively against Stanford pitcher Carolyn Lee, who at one point retired 10 consecutive Arizona hitters.
Ivy Davis drew a 10-pitch walk with two outs in the seventh, and hustled to score from first on Ediorβs liner into the left-field corner. Edior previously had just 11 at-bats in Pac-12 play this year.
Arizona can win its third straight Pac-12 series with a win in the penultimate game of the season Friday at 5β―p.m.
