The Marana man at the center of an 18-month police investigation into embezzling funds from a youth football organization was arrested Friday, officials said.
Steve Marshall was arrested in connection to his involvement with at least one Tucson youth football organization, Arizona Attorney General's Office spokeswoman Katie Conner told the Star Sunday night.
Marshall was reported to police in March 2017 for embezzling funds from the Marana Broncos, an association affiliated with the Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation. Marshall was the Broncos president from September 2009 until February 2017.
The investigation was transferred to Oro Valley police a month later and was still ongoing as of May. Oro Valley police have been unable to comment on the status of the investigation, deferring questions to the Attorney General's Office.
The Star reported in May that while under investigation, Marshall was operating for-profit football club and charging hundreds of dollars a month for kids to participate.
It's unclear what charges Marshall is facing or which organization the arrest stems from, as the indictment wasn't immediately available.
In 2005, Marshall was sued in Pima County Superior Court in connection with stealing roughly $10,000 from another TYFSF association, the Oro Valley Dolphins.
