The Arizona women's basketball team is down to only 10 active players on its roster this season with the recent departure of Fanta Gassama from the program.Β
β(Fanta Gassama) is no longer with the team,β UA head coach Adia Barnes said.
Barnes would not elaborate on whether Gassama, a forward, was asked to leave or left on her own accord.Β
Gassama, who joined the Wildcats for summer training as a transfer from South Georgia Tech, has not been seen in videos or photos posted by the team since the beginning of August and was removed from the online roster in recent weeks.
Arizona as 11 players on its roster, but freshman Montaya Dew is out for the year after suffering a left knee injury and underoing surgery.
While going only 10 players deep might seem to be a disadvantage, Barnes typically doesn't go more than five players deep into her bench. And with more balance on this year's squad β four strong forwards left, even with Dew out β this shouldn't have a major impact the Wildcats.Β
