The careers of quarterback Jordan McCloud, center, and Jayden de Laura, right, remain intertwined. Once teammates at Arizona, they both transferred to Texas State this offseason. But McCloud only went there after de Laura departed.

Jordan McCloud preceded Jayden de Laura at Arizona.

Now McCloud is succeeding de Laura at Texas State.

McCloud, who briefly started at quarterback for the Wildcats in 2021, has transferred to TSU, where de Laura was on the roster for about a month before withdrawing from the school and declaring for the NFL Draft. He is expected to participate in Arizona’s pro day in mid-March.

Texas State will be McCloud’s fourth school. He began his college career at South Florida and played two seasons there before transferring to Arizona. McCloud appeared in three games for the Wildcats in ’21 and was named the starter partway through the season. But he suffered a broken leg against UCLA and missed the rest of the campaign.

The following offseason, Arizona brought in de Laura and freshman Noah Fifita, pushing McCloud down the depth chart. He left the UA in 2022 and landed at James Madison. McCloud threw for 3,657 yards and 35 touchdowns last season and was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year.

McCloud entered the transfer portal after JMU coach Curt Cignetti left to become the head coach at Indiana. Now McCloud will finish his college career at Texas State, which also plays in the Sun Belt.
