Arizona added former Miami Hurricanes cornerback Demetrius Freeney through the transfer portal on Sunday. Freeney announced his commitment on X

Freeney joins the Wildcats after one season at Miami, where he signed to play for former UA secondary coach Jahmile Adae. Freeney signed with Miami over Oklahoma, Houston, Louisville and San Jose State.

Freeney appeared in three games during his one season in Miami, but didn't record any stats.

Before Miami, Freeney, a San Leandro, California native, starred at College of San Mateo in Northern California.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Freeney had two interceptions, six pass break ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in one season at College of San Mateo. Freeney is the latest College of San Mateo product to join the Wildcats since the hiring of head coach Brent Brennan, joining cornerback Johno Price, defensive end Cyrus Durham and wide receiver Jeremiah Patterson, who also committed to Arizona on Sunday.

Freeney adds depth to the Wildcats' cornerbacks room that lost starter Ephesians Prysock to the transfer portal. Arizona has potential All-Big 12 cornerback Tacario Davis and "Star" Treydan Stukes, who comes from a cornerback background and took reps at cornerback while safety Genesis Smith played nickel back, along with Price, Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine, Emmanuel Karnley and Louisville transfer Marquis Groves-Killebrew, among others.
