For the first time in five years, Salpointe Catholic girls volleyball is the state champion.
The No.1-ranked Lancers took home the 4A conference state title after defeating No. 3 American Leadership Academy — Queen Creek, 3-1, on Saturday. The title is the Lancers’ fourth championship.
On its way to the top, Salpointe Catholic took down No. 16 Sahuarita, No. 8 Cactus Shadows and No. 5 Mica Mountain, all 3-0, in the playoff rounds.
In the championship match against ALA — Queen Creek, Salpointe Catholic scored 25 points in sets one and two (25-19 and 25-23). The team dropped the third set, 25-18, before bouncing back in the fourth set with a score of 25-22 to win the state tournament.
Senior Kate Mobley had a powerful performance with 11 kills, 22 digs, 25 receptions and five solo blocks. Due to her efficiency, Mobley earned the tournament’s MVP title.
Her sister, Natalie Mobley, also had quite the match with nine kills and seven solo blocks.

Other playmakers include sophomore Reagan Burgle with 28 digs and 33 receptions,
senior Caitlin Hurley with 22 assists, followed by sophomore Callen Hutchens with 20 assists and 14 digs, along with senior Kiki Muehlebach, who had 15 receptions and digs.
Seniors Natalia Solomon and Ivy Allen had nine and eight kills, respectively. Senior Mia Bartfalvi secured six kills for the Lancers.
This season under head coach Keith Rubio, Salpointe Catholic went 24-2 overall, including going 9-1 in conference play and 7-1 in regional play.
After this season, the Lancers are set to face a roster shakeup as they will lose 12 seniors. Additionally, Salpointe Catholic will move to the 5A conference next season, creating another layer of challenges, but also possibilities, for the team.
