LeBron James and Bronny James became the first father-son duo to play together on the same NBA team during the Los Angeles Lakers 118-114 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Bronny, who was celebrating his 20th birthday, entered the game during the second quarter of the preseason defeat, joining his father LeBron on the court. “For a father, it means everything. For someone who didn't have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have influence on your son. Be able to have moments with your son. And ultimately, to be able to work with your son. I think that's one of the greatest things that a father can ever hope for or wish for,” said LeBron James. LeBron, who finished the encounter with 19 points, four assists and five rebounds, noted, “WOW THAT WAS SURREAL” on X after the game. Bronny, who was selected in the second round of this year’s draft, finished with two rebounds as the Lakers clocked their second straight loss in preseason. LeBron and Bronny shared just four minutes and nine seconds on the court, with James Jr missing a three-pointer on a pass from his father. Lakers star Anthony Davis impressed in the first half of the contest, notching 17 points on seven-of-ten shooting as both he and LeBron sat out the second half. Speaking after the game, Davis referred to Bronny as “tough” but added that the “defensive-minded” rookie “is still trying to figure everything out.”
