The Sugar Skulls practice at Kino Sports Complex, April 10.

The Tucson Sugar Skulls experienced quarterback issues in their first two games of the season, so they signed two quarterbacks last week.

One of Tucson’s new additions at quarterback, Jorge Reyna, led the Sugar Skulls to a 44-24 win over in-state rival Northern Arizona Wranglers Saturday night in Prescott Valley.

It’s the first win of the season for Tucson, which snapped an 11-game losing streak dating back to last season. Tucson’s previous win was 51-50 shootout against the Vegas Knight Hawks on May 18, 2024. Ironically, Reyna was the quarterback for Vegas.

Reyna completed 10 of 16 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for three touchdowns on Saturday.

Tucson running back Devonte Sapp-Lynch also scored a rushing and receiving touchdown in the win over Northern Arizona. Tucson scored on five of its six trips inside the red zone.

Saturday marked Tucson’s first win over Northern Arizona since 2023.

Up next: Tucson (1-2) will have one more road game against the San Diego Strike Force (1-2) on Sunday, before the Sugar Skulls face the Arizona Rattlers (3-0) at Tucson Arena on Saturday, May 3 at 6:05 p.m.
