Shopping Cinderella's Closet is like digging through the ultimate clearance sale.
All dresses are $5. 👗🤑💕
Called the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, the shopping extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8 is hosted by Cinderella's Closet and the Junior League of Tucson, 2099 E. River Road.
You'll be able to sift through about 1,200 pre-owned dresses, including gems by designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein.
Yep, still $5.
From sun dresses to club dresses to power dresses, your purchases aid Cinderella's Closet with its primary mission: To help Tucson girls find their dream prom dress for free.
While you won't be able to shop for prom dresses here, Cinderella's Closet will use the proceeds to fill in some gaps in their prom dress inventory — mainly plus-size gowns.
"We turn away about 25 girls a year because we don't have anything in their size..." says Melissa Tureaud, one of the two sisters who founded Cinderella's Closet. "We have about 1,200 prom dresses, and I would say maybe 100 are size 14 and up ... That sucks. It's heartbreaking."
Tureaud and her sister Jennifer Megaw started Cinderella's Closet in 2009 and gave away about 35 prom dresses at their first event. Since then, the annual event has grown as the number of donated gowns has increased. This year, they gave away about 200 dresses, Tureaud says.
Dig through hundreds of $5 dresses.
This is the first year they've organized a designated sale for the non-prom dresses they receive in donations, which range from casual to formal.
You'll find juniors and women's dresses at the sale, but no kids' clothes. There will also be food trucks outside the Junior League during the event. Cards are accepted, but cash is preferred.
If you have a dress — prom or otherwise, of any size — to donate to Cinderella's Closet, visit cinderellasclosettucson.com to contact Tureaud. You can deliver donations to Tureaud's State Farm Insurance office at 7487 E. Broadway.
