Bruce Smith, owner of Cassidy Collectibles, poses for a photo with some of the records in his shop on Oct. 10. Smith will organize the 19th annual record show that will take place on Oct. 26.

For years, Bruce Smith has been collecting vinyl, watching records stack up in his home.

Nearly two decades ago, he decided to start selling them to the community and the Tucson Record Show was born.

Tucson vinyl enthusiasts, get ready to expand your record collections when Smith’s Cassidy Collectibles hosts the 19th annual Tucson Record Show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

The record show is a “great place to expand your collection, find your favorite albums or discover something new,” said Smith.

This year’s show features over 25 vendors from across the Southwest selling records, CDs and music memorabilia of all genres at the Fraternal Order of Police Hall, 3445 N. Dodge Blvd.

“This event is kind of riding the wave of the return of vinyl. It seems like some people are seeing records as an investment and want to grow their collections now more than ever,” Smith said.

An album by Patti Page is just one of many at Cassidy Collectibles, owned by Bruce Smith.

Early entry to the show is at 8 a.m. and costs $8. Regular entry starts at 9 a.m. and is set at $4. If you come with the show’s poster, available around town and on the Cassidy Collectibles Facebook page, the regular entry fee is half-off.

Smith is a staple in the record selling and buying community in Tucson, having been in the business since the 1970s.

The show has evolved over the years, first starting at the Plumber and Steamfitters Hall on Tucson Boulevard before moving to a location near Interstate 10 and Grant Road and then to its current location.

The show has also expanded the number of vendors and this year, for the first time, will include local sponsors like The Rialto Theatre, Sabino Vinyl Records owner Richard L. Skrill and Desert Vinyl Records owner Bob Lambert.

“I’ve never done one of these shows where people didn’t have fun,” Smith said.

Smith enjoys seeing the music community show up and looks forward to this year’s event, specifically because of the number of vendors.

“There will be so much music available to buy,” Smith said. “If you are looking for something specific or even want to explore something new, this show will have it.”

Smith is also excited about the sponsorships this year, hoping they will bring in a bigger crowd and expand awareness of the show and the record buying and selling community.

“Even when we had some shows where we didn’t have the turnout, people still enjoyed it,” Smith said. “I’m always getting comments from the public that attend that they just had a blast and found stuff they love.”

Smith encourages all ages to attend to find music that everyone will love, and said that even if the vendors don’t have the album you are looking for, there is a chance they will be able to help you find it.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and the event will accept both cash and card. For more information, contact Bruce Smith at 520-622-0104 or cassidycollectibles@earthlink.net
