A recent “Community Re:Investment Day in South Tucson” brought artists and volunteers together to create wall murals and crosswalk murals on South Fourth Avenue at East 28th Street.
Artist Sal Sawaki, of Wagon Burner Arts, partnered with Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona to create the crosswalk art, including phases of the moon and a Día de Los Muertos honoring those who died of COVID-19. Artist Melo “Mel” Dominguez, owner of Galeria Mitotera, coordinated wall murals displaying COVID-19 awareness and support.
The piece was in collaboration with the Sunnyside Foundation. The event was hosted by Avenidas Inc., a nonprofit that connects residents, artists and businesses through economic redevelopment and reinvestment.
