Wildcats targeting top recruits in bid to become gridiron power
In the latest Scout.com football recruiting rankings for the class of 2016, Arizona is said to be following 53 players, all in the top 300. UA coach Rich Rodriguez has commitments from four in that group. It’s an unwieldy bunch of numbers, and inexact, but it’s probably without precedent that Arizona is now consistently recruiting at that level. It gives the UA’s football recruiting platform credibility, prestige and visibility it has rarely enjoyed, even if it doesn’t succeed in signing 15 more of those 53. It’s one of the necessary steps in becoming a year-to-year power.
