- APS Foundation: Underrepresented students across Southern Arizona will soon receive lessons in critical thinking and problem-solving through STEM research conducted by the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the APS Foundation. Through the STEM Educational Outreach project, SARSEF staff and board members will teach at 50 schools throughout APS service territories in Southern Arizona.
- Skechers, Shoe Carnival and Delivering Good: Skechers, Shoe Carnival and the national nonprofit Delivering Good partnered with the Tucson Indian Center to provide more than 700 pairs of new shoes to children in need. The children had the opportunity to personalize their new pair of BOBS from Skechers at decorating stations.
- Tucson Electric Power: To commemorate 125 years of service to the community, TEP is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity Tucson and Literacy Connects for a day of service on Oct. 28. TEP employee volunteers will help the agencies build Minton Court, a new nine-home affordable housing development near Literacy Connectsâ program center at 200 E. Yavapai Road. Volunteers will paint, weed, pick up debris, trim trees, break up concrete and level soil to prepare sites for the new Habitat homes and an expanded parking lot for Literacy Connects. The event will feature activities for children ages 6 and older, such as games, sidewalk chalk drawing, face painting and storytelling by Stories that Soar at 10 a.m. TEPâs solar trailer also will be on site, providing solar-powered TV screens and video games.
