Despite growing competition from online retailers, Southern Arizona developers remain confident in shopping centers.
Several projects are in varying stages of construction in Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties.
Sahuarita will get a major center in 2018 called The Crossing at Sahuarita.
Brenna Lacey, of Volk Co., represented La Jolla Verde Land Holdings LLC in the sale of 17.7 acres of land at the southeast corner of Nogales Highway and Abrego Drive.
FAE Holdings 461354R LLC bought the land for $3.5 million. Darren Pitts, of Velocity Retail Group, represented the buyer.
Wadsworth Development Group and Accelerated Development Services will develop the center and several tenants will be announced in the coming months, Lacey said.
“Sahuarita has a great trade area for commercial purposes and there hasn’t been a large, new project built for a very long time,” she said. “There is pent-up demand.”
