Study on Genesis
to begin at St. Francis

St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church will host a series of classes on the book of Genesis.

The six-week series begins 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 12 at the church, 4625 E. River Road, and will continue at the same time on Sundays, July 19, July 26, Aug. 2, Aug. 9 and Aug. 16.

Information presented through DVD by Amy-Jill Levine, a professor of New Testament and Jewish studies at Vanderbilt University’s Divinity School, will “introduce participants to new methods of biblical study and challenge old thinking,” according to press materials. Discussion will follow.

Speedway mosque has good fireworks view

Tucson’s chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has a great view of the “A” Mountain fireworks from its parking lot, according to Umer Shahid, the chapter’s public affairs director.

On July 4, the Yousuf Mosque, 250 W. Speedway, will host a free barbecue and cap the night with that view of the fireworks over the downtown area.

Church hosts $60 class on baby-sitter safety

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson, 4831 E. 22nd St., will host a Safe Sitter class 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, July 11.

This community class will teach children 11 and older how to handle stressful situations while baby-sitting. The class includes medical and safety instructions, along with basic child-care skills, according to press materials.

There are limited slots for the $60 class. Students should bring a lunch.
