Claremont professor
to give free lectures
A Pitzer College professor of sociology and secular studies will give two free lectures on Sunday.
Professor Phil Zuckerman of the Claremont, California, college will speak on “The Rise of the Nones: Causes and Consequences of Rising Irreligion in the USA,” from 10 a.m. to noon and “Secularism and Individualism,” from 1 to 3 p.m., according to press materials.
The second lecture will focus on secular social bonds and Jewish identity, as the lectures are sponsored by Freethought Arizona and the Secular Humanist Jewish Circle, respectively.
Zuckerman will speak at DuVal Auditorium at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.

Multi-week course explores Dalai Lamas
The Awam Tibetan Buddhist Institute, 3400 E. Speedway, will launch an eight-week class on the 14 Dalai Lamas, starting Sunday, July 5.
From 1 to 3 p.m., Jane Stanley, an active member at the institute, will teach on the lives of the leaders along with mystical, social and political backgrounds of Tibetan Buddhism, according to press materials.
The course will draw from the book “The Fourteen Dalai Lamas: A Sacred Legacy of Reincarnation” by Glenn Mullin with supporting information from “Secret Lives of the Dalai Lama” by Alexander Norman. Both are available on Amazon.
