The Tucson Citizen photographed the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Kalpin in 1965. The owners designed the house, built it, did the interior design and landscaped it themselves.

Native cacti and palms are used in the landscaping for the William Kalpin home in Tucson Country Club Estates. The house is built of concrete block with white stucco finish and is Spanish Mediterranean in design.

Oils by Canadian artist Frank E. Cavell are seen on the living room wall in the home of the William Kalpins in Tucson Country Club Estates. Draperies are in antique white satin with a green overlay at the top edged in embroidery. Tones in the living room are turquoise, avocado green and gold. Walls and carpeting are white.

Dining area in the kitchen which includes a barbecue and chopping block center is in brick. Other walls are in a washable wall covering in an abstract print in white, orange and gold.

Vases from Mexico flank the front entry gate which is outlined in adobe brick. Spanish fountain in the court is in Mexican tile in tones of yellow, maroon and blue. Hand carved doors to the home were done in Mexico. Hammered iron hardware is from Spain. Court also is beamed.

Wrought iron candelabra on wall at right in the dining room is from Mexico. The oil painting if Mr. Kalpin's grandfather, in its original frame, is over 100 years old. Furniture is fruitwood in a distressed finish.

An enclosed patio off the family room is skylighted and screened. The patio is centered by a lily pond and fountain where feather rock is used among the plants. Floor is flagstone and furniture is a combination of wrought iron and rattan. Fixtures are Spanish.

Spanish notes appear in the oil painting of a Spanish scene by an Austrian artist, A. Ferdelt on dining room wall and in the wrought iron fixture from Spain over the dining table. Foils and shield also are Spanish. Native copper stone is used on far wall in dining room and around fireplace to left.

Swinging doors at right lead to double dressing rooms and bath off the master bedroom. Bed coverlets are in green and gold quilted silk, draperies and canopy are matching. Beds are set on a raised dais of wood parquet.

Floor in the family room is in slate. Mahogany built-ins at left house books, television. Mexican baskets stand at either side of the fireplace and ceiling is beamed in mahogany as it is throughout the house. The fixture is from Spain.
