Three people were displaced and a cat was killed in a Monday night house fire on Tucson's east side, officials said.
Just after 6 p.m., firefighters went to the home in the 6200 block of East 29th Street, near Sout Wilmot Road, and immediately noticed smoke and flames coming from one side of the house, said Capt. Julian Herrera, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.
When crews arrived, the home's three residents were already waiting outside with one of their cats, Herrera said.
Fire crews used hose lines to attack the fire from the inside of the home, while a ladder crew climbed onto the roof to to cut a ventilation hole and fight a fire in the home's attic, Herrera said.
It took nine units and 23 firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control and most of the damage was contained to one side of the house, Herrera said.
One of the residents reported minor injuries, but wasn't transported to the hospital, and no firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, Herrera said.
The residents have been displaced due to significant smoke damage in the home, and the Red Cross will be assisting the, Herrera said.
TFD fire investigators and the Tucson Police Department are still looking into the cause of the fire.
