DPS says it is investigating whether to file charges against a semi-truck driver after an I-10 crash last week killed a Sahuarita father and son.
The four-vehicle crash took place about 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 on eastbound Interstate 10 near Quartzsite in western Arizona.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a semi-truck attached to a fully-loaded trailer was traveling east on I-10 in the first lane. Traffic came to a stop due to a construction zone. Preliminary indications are that the semi-truck driver took evasive action but collided with a pickup truck and two other semi-trucks, DPS said.
The two people in the pickup, 29-year-old Quinn Truitt of Sahuarita and his 5-year-old son, were taken to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced dead and the father died on May 15, DPS said.
DPS said it is investigating the role in the crash of the 26-year-old California man driving the semi-truck that collided with the other vehicles. No charges have been filed.
