A woman was killed in an officer-involved shooting Monday night in front of a house on the city's southeast side, Tucson police said.

About 10 p.m., dispatchers received a call reporting a woman yelling, followed by the sound of a gunshot at a house in the 1900 block of South Montezuma Avenue, police said in a news release. The house is near South Alvernon Way and East 29th Street.

"Officers quickly responded and encountered a female suspect in front of the residence, and an officer-involved shooting occurred," the release said.

Officers immediately rendered aid, but the woman died later at the hospital, police said. No officers were injured.

No details about the shooting had been released late Tuesday morning.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, the multi-agency group that investigates local officer-involved shootings has been activated. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has been assigned to be the lead agency in the criminal investigation, the release said.

The department will conduct a separate internal investigation.

Results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review, which is standard procedure.
