A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting last month on Tucson's southeast side, police said.
Roman Alexander Armenta turned himself into police on Nov. 16 β the day of the shooting β and was jailed on suspicion of being a prohibited possessor of a gun. Armenta's charges have been amended to include suspicion of first-degree murder,Tucson police said in a news release. Bond was set at $250,000.
On the day of the shooting, police were responding to a gunfire call at a house in the 1900 block of South Montezuma Avenue. On the way, officers found Misael Lopez, 19, shot and wounded in a crashed car, near East 29th Street and South Alvernon Way. He died later at the hospital, police said.
Witnesses told police that gunfire erupted during a confrontation between two men and occupants of the house. The house was empty, however, when officers arrived, police have said.
