Authorities have identified a 47-year-old man who was shot and killed by a deputy last month during a domestic violence-related call in Corona de Tucson.
About 11:45 p.m. Nov. 29, deputies were called to a house in the 400 block of South Stone Bench Road for reports of gunfire, said a news release by the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, the multi-agency team that investigates local officer-involved shootings.
Witnesses said John Allan McDonald fired at least one shot into the air then left the area of foot, the release said.
John Hisey-Long, a deputy with the Pima County Sheriff's Department for three years, found McDonald walking nearby.
The deputy told McDonald several time to stop and show his hands. Instead, McDonald removed a handgun from his pants and moved toward the deputy, the PRCIT release said.
The deputy then fatally shot McDonald, the release said.
The Tucson Police Department is the lead investigating agency. The Pima County Sheriffβs Department is conducting a separate internal investigation.
Findings will be forwarded to the Pima County Attorney's Office, which is standard procedure.
