Tanque Verde teacher cited for excellence
Juli Monroe-Daley, a third-grade teacher at Tanque Verde Elementary School, has been selected to receive the November Teacher Excellence Award.
The honor from Tucson Values Teachers and OfficeMax/Office Depot comes with a $100 gift card for school supplies.
Monroe-Daley has been teaching for 18 years, 12 of which have been at Tanque Verde Elementary School.
She was nominated for the award by Shannon North, the mother of one of her students.
βThis is my second student to have been blessed with her as their teacher,β North wrote in her nomination.
βBoth my children have very different strengths and I am so impressed with how she manages all types of different student needs.β

Toy drive to benefit Diamond Center
Students from La Paloma Academy are working to collect 500 toys to donate to Diamond Childrenβs Medical Center.
The charter schoolβs holiday drive runs through Dec. 15.
The community is invited to donate new, unwrapped toys at the La Paloma Academy Lakeside campus, 8140 E. Golf Links Road.
Christmas comes early at Roadrunner
Christmas came early for Roadrunner Elementary School students, thanks to the Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge #2815.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, 35 students in grades K-6 were treated to a shopping spree and holiday luncheon.
The Lodge donated $140 for each child to purchase new clothes and shoes. The children also received a visit from Mrs. Claus, who arrived on a Golder Ranch Fire District truck with a bagful of toys and school supplies.
Special Olympics honor two schools
Mountain View and Marana high schools have been named National Banner Unified Champion Schools by Special Olympics Arizona.
The schools were determined to have met national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy and respect.
