Bicyclists wait in line for shaved ice from Kona Ice during Living Streets Alliance's Cyclovia on March 27, 2022.

Every October, three miles of Tucson streets close to cars and open to cyclists, skaters, pedestrians, food trucks and community hubs.

Cyclovia happens twice a year and it's back this weekend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. The 3ยฝ-mileย car-free party is hosted by local nonprofit Living Streets Alliance, who envisions streets as "living public spaces that connect people to places and to each other." This weekend, LSA is celebrating its 20th Cyclovia event.

The Cyclovia route changes seasonally. This year, the route winds from the downtown and Fourth Avenue areas to Fontana Avenue just north of Fort Lowell Road. See the full route here.ย

There are five fun hubs along the route. Here's what to expect:

  • More than 20 food vendors including Mafia Kitchen, Sumaj Bolivian Street Food, Haus of Brats, Jozarelli's Italian, Eatgypt, Lahaina's Shave Ice, Empanadas El Dominicano, BlackJack Citrus Fusions, La Merguez and Friesy. Each hub has around 3-5 food vendors to choose from.
  • A beer garden at the downtown hub at Seventh Street and Sixth Avenue.
  • Activities and resources from more than two dozen organizations like Genuine BMX, El Grupo Youth Cycling, The Drawing Studio, El Rio Health, Community Gardens of Tucson, Owl and Panther, FC Tucson and The Primavera Foundation. Expect festivities like bike decorating, performances, free books, free helmets and yard games.
  • Bike repair stations will be at each hub, in addition to information booths.
  • Cinco for Cyclovia is a bingo-style treasure hunt. Here's how it works: grab a bingo card from an info booth and explore the route, collecting a sticker from Cinco for Cyclovia partners when completing mini challenges, which are marked on the route map. Get at least five in a row on your bingo card (or complete all 25 activities if you're feeling extra adventurous) and drop it off at any information booth.

While it costs money to get food or merch from vendors, Cyclovia is free to attend and enjoy. For more information about the five hubs during Cyclovia, click here. Visit this mapย for information about parking and public transit.

"Cyclovia is all about reclaiming our city streets for people to enjoy," LSA said in a press release. "It is not a race with a start to finish; think of it as a huge block party or linear park where you can walk, skate, bike, play, dance or pass time with friends. During Cyclovia, the streets are yours!"
